Sortera Trials Next-Generation DAF XB Skip Loader

Sortera Explores the Future of Fleet Innovation

Story

Sortera is trialling a new DAF XB skip loader from HTC DAF, featuring fibre-based chains and a significantly lighter build. The vehicle supports lower emissions, improved fuel efficiency, and quieter operations—advancing Sortera’s commitment to smarter, more sustainable solutions.

At Sortera, we are committed to investing in cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable solutions across our operations. As part of this commitment, we’re currently trialling a new DAF XB skip loader, supplied by HTC DAF, that brings exciting innovations to our fleet.

The vehicle will be on trial for two weeks and is over 500kg lighter than a standard skip loader. It is fitted with cutting-edge fibre-based skip chain technology, reducing chain weight from 120kg to just 1kg. This major reduction in weight supports greater fuel efficiency and helps to reduce emissions—an important step forward in our efforts to minimise the environmental footprint of our fleet.

In addition to environmental gains, the new chain system also produces substantially less noise than traditional steel chains. This improvement offers real value to our customers and local communities, particularly those living or working near active construction and waste collection sites.

While innovation in the skip industry is rare—and often met with scepticism—we believe there’s a real opportunity to do things differently. At Sortera, we’re driven by a mindset of continuous improvement, always looking for smarter, more effective ways to serve our customers and support the communities we operate in.

The DAF XB has been provided by HTC Group, and we’re pleased to be working closely with their team throughout the trial. Partnerships like this are essential to how we operate—collaborating with trusted suppliers to bring smarter solutions to life.

“It’s fantastic to have the opportunity with Sortera, and I’m looking forward to seeing our new DAF XB skip demo in action and the benefits it brings to Sortera's operation,” said Luke Mason, Managing Director at HTC Group.
